Surgical Skills Training Centre

The Surgical Skills Training Centre is a state of the art, purpose built surgical/medical training centre providing facilities that can be utilised to train doctors, nurses and allied healthcare workers to increase skills and expertise in South African and International healthcare. The SSTC is part of the Division of Paediatric Surgery, Department of Surgery, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Cape Town and is situated at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital in Cape Town South Africa. Multi-disciplinary workshops are conducted using a variety of surgical skills training models. Simulated models, animal tissue and cadavers segments are used for training. There are no live animals used at the training centre. It consists of a seminar room and a skills laboratory. The seminar room is equipped with up to date audio-visual equipment and can accommodate 36 people. There are 9 workstations equipped with state of the art Karl Storz equipment in the skills laboratory, one of the stations being a master workstation.
